Adulting is Hard and I Don’t Wanna

adulting is hard

Being a grownup requires putting on pants, paying bills, and occasionally leaving the house. Some days, I just don’t feel like adulting. Most adults probably feel this way from time to time. I feel this way more often than I care to admit.

It’s especially hard to do adult things like concentrate on work, shop for food, or clean the bathroom when I’m feeling so sensory-overloaded. Yesterday I bought a privacy tent for my bed (from Amazon).

(I’m hoping that in addition to blocking out the sunlight, it will also block out the nagging reminder that I need to clean the toilet.)

All I feel like doing today is curling up in my bed cave and reading, while intermittently whining on Facebook. Is that too much to ask? LOL

Sometimes I feel like emotionally I’m just a 13-year-old trapped in an adult body. Do you ever feel that way?

Ellie has that tent for her bed and LOVES it. Hers is pink though.

  2. We have the black twin bed tent for my son with autism and ADHD. He’s 16 now but I can see him using it through adulthood. He sleeps so much better in it at night but also hangs out in there during the day when he needs a break.

    • Hi, Rick. I’m glad your son likes his. How long has he had it? I’m hoping that they last a long time. I read a lot of reviews before buying mine, and many reviewers said they bought the tents for their autistic children. I thought the tents would be equally great for autistic adults. Many of us suffer from insomnia, and I think most of us have sensory overload issues to varying degrees. Those things don’t just magically go away once we’re over the age of 18. One thing I especially liked about this particular brand is that they sell the tents in various bed sizes, while the other brands I found only sold them for kid-sized (twin) beds.

  3. OMG I so don’t feel like adult ing today. Thanks for the laugh. I needed it.

  4. I’ve had parents really wonder about me when I relate to kids much more than adults. If they only knew what I’ve been through in my life…
